Put the key into the ignition and then turn the key to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories, but not start the engine. Repeat this five times, and then keep the key in the "on" position.
The next step is to buy a new case for your old key fob. You can get these at any auto parts shop, and they're usually quite affordable. Depending on the model, you may even get them without any electronics.
To open the case simply push the screwdriver with a flathead into the slot in the middle. The case should break easily, and once you've got it open, you'll get access to the internal electronics. To remove the electronics, use a small screwdriver and attempt to pull them out in a gentle manner.
